Strong Start Fades Into a Hard-Earned Finish Liam Keeley, 25, of Boulder, completed the marathon in 4:03:49, an overall pace of 9:18 per mile. Keeley's early miles were his fastest of the day, covering the first six in 47:38 an average of roughly 7:56 per mile before settling into a steady 8:05-8:18 rhythm through mile 20. That opening stretch set him up well, but the closing miles told a different story: pace slipped into the 9:0010:50 range from mile 21 through 23, then dropped sharply to 17:52 for mile 24 before recovering to finish. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet adds its own demand to any marathon distance, and Keeley's finish on the Pearl Street Mall capped a race defined by a strong front half and a tougher final 10K.
