Consistent Early Pace Gives Way to a Tough Final 10K Matthew Deuschle finished in 4:38:29, averaging 10:37 per mile across the 26.2-mile course. Through the first 20 miles, Matthew held a tight, consistent pace in the 9:37-9:55 range, never straying far from an even effort as he moved through downtown Boulder and out toward Boulder Reservoir. That control gave way over the final six miles, where his per-mile splits climbed steadily from 10:02 to a high of 14:12 at mile 23, before he rallied to close with an 11:04 mile to the finish on the Pearl Street Mall. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, that opening 20-mile stretch stands as the clear strength of the race, and building a bit more cushion in the closing miles could help him carry that early rhythm all the way home next time.
