Strong Start Fades Into a Long Second Half Renzo Sanio covered the marathon in 4:52:43. His opening six miles were the highlight of the day, clicking off at roughly 8:23 per mile through mile 6, a pace he never matched again. From there, per-mile times crept upward steadily, crossing 9-minute pace by mile 9 and 10-minute pace by mile 20, before the final six miles slowed further, including a rough patch near mile 21. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Sanio's early miles held firm before the elevation and distance combined to erode his pace over the back half. He closed out the course on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, capping a race defined by a fast first quarter and a gradual, extended fade through the remaining twenty miles.
