Strong Start Fuels Age-Group Win Adam Cole finished the marathon in 3:16:30, placing 44th overall and 38th among men in a field of 3,305, and won his 45-49 age division. His race opened fast, clicking off the first six miles between 6:54 and 7:02 per mile, holding elapsed pace under 7:00 through mile six. From there the pace eased gradually, drifting into the 7:20s7:40s through the middle miles before slowing further to the 8:008:36 range between miles 19 and 24 as cumulative pace crept from 7:16 to 7:28 per mile. He closed with a strong rally, dropping to 7:38 for mile 26 to secure the division title. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Cole's opening six-mile stretch stands as the fastest sustained running of his race, nearly 30 seconds per mile quicker than his overall finishing pace of 7:30.
