Strong Early Pace Carries Him to a Top-2% Finish Before the Back Half Bites David Ahnfeldt finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 3:21:15, placing 53rd overall and 46th among men in a field of 3,305. He ran the first 13 miles in even 7:00 pace, holding between 6:54 and 7:23 splits through halfway, before the effort cost him: mile splits climbed past 8:00 by mile 19 and slipped further, with a 10:15 mile at 24 among the slowest of the day. His race unfolded partly at altitude, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet, a real factor over 26.2 miles. The course took him out past Boulder Reservoir and through Boulder County backroads before the finish on the Pearl Street Mall. His slowdown lined up with the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5, where his pace had already eased into the 9-minute range.
