Strong Early Pace Fades Before a Late Rally Davis Brickle finished the marathon in 4:33:41. He ran the first 17 miles at a steady clip, holding between 7:26 and 9:05 per mile and settling near an 8:01 cumulative pace, before the effort slowed sharply starting at mile 18. The low point came at mile 20, a 38:53 split, after which he steadied into the 11:3812:49 range through mile 25. He closed with a strong final mile, dropping to 8:39 as he came back into downtown Boulder. That finish arrived on the historic Pearl Street Mall, capping a course run at over 5,000 feet of elevation, a demanding backdrop for the 3,305-runner field tackling Boulder's marathon distance this year.
