Strong Start Fades Late but Finishes Strong on Pearl Street Joel finished the marathon in 4:36:28, an average pace of 10:33 per mile. He built an efficient rhythm through the first half, holding elapsed pace between 8:37 and 8:53 per mile through mile 13, then eased through the middle miles before a tougher stretch from mile 20 to 23, where per-mile splits climbed into the 1315 minute range. He closed with a final mile back under 10:00, showing some late recovery. Joel's first 13 miles were the standout stretch of the day, sustained near 8:40 per mile a pace he might look to extend further into the back half next time. That opening effort came on a marathon course that runs out past Boulder Reservoir and county backroads before finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall, in a city sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation.
