Steady Early Pace Gives Way to a Tough Final 10K Pierce Washburn finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:18:46, an average pace of 9:52 per mile across 26.2 miles. Washburn ran his first 18 miles remarkably even, holding between 8:37 and 9:12 per mile and reaching the 18-mile mark in 2:40:10 an 8:53 pace for that opening stretch. The back end of the course told a different story: mile splits climbed steadily from 9:44 at mile 19 to 14:29 at the finish, pushing his overall pace from 8:53 to 9:52 by the close. That first 18-mile stretch stands as the clear highlight of the day, and there may be room to work on carrying that early rhythm further into the back half next time. The course finished on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, at over 5,000 feet of elevation.
