Steady Through 18, Grinds Home Strong Seamus Lyons completed the marathon in 4:22:20, averaging 10:00 per mile across the 26.2-mile distance. Lyons ran a remarkably even race through the first 18 miles, holding a tight 9:209:50 per-mile band and reaching the 18-mile mark in 2:51:51 (about 9:33 pace). Miles 19 through 23 brought a natural cooling of pace, bottoming out near 12:48 for mile 23, before he rallied over the closing miles, dropping back to a 9:29 mile 26 to finish on the Pearl Street Mall. That final surge, coming after the tougher middle-to-late stretch, stood out as the strongest running of his race. All of this came at altitude, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet.
