Steady Pacing Carries Marathoner Into the Top 4 Percent Nathaniel Flowers crossed the finish in 3:29:37, an average pace of 8:00 per mile, placing 105th overall and 93rd among men out of the field of 3,305. His first 18 miles were remarkably even, holding between 7:36 and 8:06 per mile and settling into a strong rhythm through the middle miles, including a fast 7:25 split at mile 11. The pace eased over the final stretch, with miles 19 through 25 drifting to the 8:159:22 range, before he closed with a 7:54 final mile his second-fastest of the race. That dip near mile 22 came close to the lululemon Power-Up Zone, positioned around mile 22.5 on the marathon course. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Flowers' ability to rally in the closing mile stands out as a strength to build on.
