Strong Start Fades Into a Determined Finish David Velarde completed the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:36:39. He opened with his fastest stretch of the race, covering the first seven miles at roughly 8:25 per mile, a pace he never matched again. From there his cumulative pace eased steadily, crossing 9:00 by mile 16 and drifting past 10:00 by mile 22 as the back half wore on, before he closed the final mile in 12:55, faster than his previous four splits. Boulder's elevation, over 5,000 feet, framed the effort throughout. Velarde passed through the marathon's lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5 in the middle of his slowest three-mile stretch, elapsed pace around 10:11, before rallying to finish among his stronger closing miles with renewed rhythm.
