Even Early Pace Gives Way to a Tough Final Stretch Joshua Shields finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 3:58:34, averaging 9:06 per mile. Through the first 18 miles he ran remarkably even, covering that stretch in 2:36:03 an 8:40 per-mile pace before the effort caught up with him over the closing miles, which slowed steadily into the 10- and 11-minute range as he worked toward the finish. That opening 18-mile stretch stands out as the strongest of the day, a long run of consistency through Boulder County backroads before the pace shifted. The final miles took him past the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5 as the effort mounted, and he carried it home to the finish on the Pearl Street Mall, closing out a full marathon distance at over 5,000 feet of elevation.
