Steady Start Gives Way to a Gritty Closing Stretch Emily Axtell finished the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:27:49, averaging 10:13 per mile. She opened efficiently, holding low 9:20s pace through the first 11 miles, and hit her fastest mile of the race at mile 11 in 9:03. From there the pace eased steadily, sliding into the 10-minute range by mile 15 and the 11-to-12 range through miles 2123, before she rallied to close her final mile in 9:53. Her toughest stretch came late, with miles 2123 running between 11:38 and 12:00 as she pushed toward the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 22.5. Given that Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, holding sub-10 pace deep into the race stands as the stronger half of her effort, and a touch more even pacing through those closing miles could help her finish faster on this course in the future.
