Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Yu Zhang #26399 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles

Strong Middle Mile Fuels Solid 5K Finish Yu Zhang, 42, of Denver, completed the 5K in 26:36. His pace built through the race: a steady opening mile in 8:13, a strong surge to 7:30 through mile two, then a settling pace of 9:54 to the finish. That second mile stood out as his fastest stretch of the day, showing a solid mid-race gear shift before easing up over the final stretch. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Zhang's overall pace of 8:34 per mile reflects a well-managed effort across the distance. With no prior Boulderthon results on record, this run offers a strong baseline. Future editions could see him aim to sustain that mile-two intensity deeper into the race for an even faster overall time.
