Strong Start Fades Into a Determined Finish Thrace Startzell completed the 2026 Boulderthon Marathon in 4:20:45, averaging 9:57 per mile. Last year he ran the Half Marathon in 1:57:55, a 9:00 pace this year, doubling the distance, he held a similar rhythm through the first two-thirds of the race before the extra mileage caught up with him in the closing stretch. His steadiest running came in miles 1 through 6, where each split fell between 8:45 and 9:09, building a cushion early. That pace largely held through mile 20 near 9:16 per mile before mile 21 slowed sharply to 16:53, right around where the lululemon Power-Up Zone sits near mile 22.5 of the marathon course. He steadied over the closing miles, bringing it home with a 10:40 final mile to finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a city sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation.
