Steady Early Pace Anchors a Strong Half Rainbow Mak covered the half marathon in 1:49:57, holding between 7:55 and 8:01 per mile through the first six miles before letting pace drift into the high 8:00s and low 9:00s over the back half. The opening six miles were the highlight, a sustained stretch near 7:57 pace that built an early cushion. Miles 9 and 11 slowed to 9:23 and 9:58, coinciding with the course passing near the lululemon Power-Up Zone around mile 9.5, before Mak steadied again to close in the low 8:20s to 8:40s. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, the overall pace held remarkably consistent across the second half despite the mid-race dip. A focus on smoothing that ninth-mile transition could help sustain the early rhythm even further next time.
