Strong Finishing Kick Seals a Steady Half Marathon Paul Johnson covered the half marathon in 1:44:45, an average pace of 7:59 per mile. He opened briskly, covering the first four miles in just under 31:32 for a 7:53 pace, then settled into a rhythm through the middle miles before a dip near mile 11 slowed his cumulative pace slightly. He answered with his strongest sustained running of the day over the final two miles, covering that stretch in about 15:24, a 7:42 pace, to close out the race. This year's half marathon course, which runs out past Boulder Reservoir before finishing on the Pearl Street Mall, carries a net elevation gain of 203 feet at an altitude of over 5,000 feet a demanding backdrop for the pace Johnson maintained late in the race.
