Steady Miles Carry Half Marathon Debut to a Strong Finish Grace Engel finished the Half Marathon in 2:00:17, an overall pace of 9:10 per mile through the field of 7,223. Her race unfolded in two distinct halves: the first six miles clicked off between 8:53 and 9:12, building a cushion before a middle stretch from mile 7 to mile 10 settled into the 9:149:40 range. She closed with her strongest sustained running of the day, covering miles 11 through 13 in 8:57, 8:47, and a final mile that pulled her overall pace back down to 9:11. That closing mile 12 split of 8:57 stands as her fastest full mile of the race, a solid answer to the mid-race dip. Finishing on the Pearl Street Mall after starting downtown at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Engel can look to that final 5K as a template if she can find a way to carry that late strength into the middle miles next time, an even faster finish awaits.
