Fast Start Carries Through Boulder's Thin Air Trevor Heneweer covered the half marathon in 1:48:02, an 8:14 per-mile average. His race split clearly into two halves: the first six miles clicked by between 7:39 and 8:00, holding him near 7:50 pace through the 10K mark, before the closing miles eased into the 8:209:19 range as the effort settled into a steadier rhythm to the Pearl Street Mall finish. Mile four stood out as his fastest of the day at 7:39, part of that strong opening stretch that set the tone for the race. Running at altitude in Boulder, over 5,000 feet above sea level, that early pace reflects well on his fitness. The 2026 half marathon course also carried nearly 50% less net elevation gain than in past years, down to 203 feet, a change runners in this field benefited from throughout.
