Steady Early Miles Anchor a Patient Half Marathon Finish David Smith completed the 2026 Boulderthon Half Marathon in 2:53:20. Smith's opening mile was his fastest of the day at 11:26, and he held pace tightly through mile two, covering that stretch in 10:41. The middle miles settled into a rhythm between 11:35 and 12:39 elapsed pace, before the back half gradually eased, with mile-by-mile splits lengthening from the 13:00s into the 15:00s by miles 10 and 11. He rallied over the final two miles, dropping back down to 13:32 and 13:56, closing out stronger than the middle stretch suggested. That final surge, after the mile 9-11 stretch marked his slowest miles, showed good closing composure. The race finished on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a fitting cap to the effort.
