Strong Late Surge Powers a Big Personal Improvement Jerry Baerwitz finished the half marathon in 1:28:47, placing 125th overall and 107th among men in a field of 7,223 nearly five minutes faster than his 1:33:40 at last year's race. His pace held steady near 6:536:58 per mile through the first nine miles before dropping into the 6:286:35 range over the final four, a strong closing kick that pulled his overall placement up sharply by the finish. That late surge coincided with the course's newly redesigned back half, where 2026 organizers cut net elevation gain by nearly 50 percent. Given Boulder's altitude above 5,000 feet, holding sub-6:40 pace over those closing miles stands out as the highlight of the race. If there's a place to look for more next time, it's whether that same strength can be found a few miles earlier.
