Strong Start Carries Him Into Boulder's Top Tier John Borrego finished the Half Marathon in 1:39:49, placing 347th overall and 279th among men in the field of 7,223. Borrego opened fast, clicking off his first six miles in 43:08 a 7:11 per-mile average the strongest stretch of his race. The middle miles cooled slightly into the 7:167:25 range before a tougher patch from miles 7 through 11, where his pace drifted to between 7:56 and 8:39. He closed well, rallying to 7:35 and 7:25 over the final two miles to bring his cumulative pace in at 7:37 per mile. Given Boulder's mile-high elevation, the even-keeled second-half recovery after the early surge stands out as the defining feature of his race.
