Steady Pacing Carries Sturm to a Strong Finish Nicholas Sturm finished the 2026 Boulderthon Half Marathon in 1:39:49, placing 348th overall and 280th among men in a field of 7,223. His race unfolded with remarkable consistencymile splits hovered between 7:25 and 7:48 for most of the distance, keeping his cumulative pace locked near 7:38-7:40 per mile from start to finish. The final mile stood out as his strongest, clocked at 7:15, as he pushed the pace on the approach into downtown Boulder. That closing surge, after more than 12 miles at a steady rhythm, capped off a well-managed effort. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, holding such a tight pace band throughout was a solid display of pacing discipline. Sturm might consider experimenting with a slightly faster middle third in future races, using this final-mile strength as a gauge for what's possible earlier in the race.
