Fast Start Fuels a Strong Finish Brett Barnes ran 1:28:08 for the half marathon, finishing 110th overall and 97th among men in a field of 7,223 runners. Barnes opened with his quickest stretch of the day, covering miles 13 in roughly 6:08 pace before easing through the middle miles, where splits crept into the 7:007:23 range. He rallied over the final two miles, dropping to 6:34 and 7:03, to close out with an overall pace of 6:43 per mile. That steadiness held up well over a course run at Boulder's 5,000-plus feet of elevation, and next time he might look to hold that early rhythm a bit longer before the dip through the middle miles.
