Steady Pacing Gives Way to a Strong Closing Kick Sydney Rickard finished the half marathon in 1:46:33, an average pace of 8:08 per mile, placing 595th overall and 155th among women in a field of 7,223 in Boulder, Colorado. Her pacing stayed remarkably even through the middle miles, holding between 8:04 and 8:15 per mile from mile 1 through mile 10. She found another gear over the final two miles, covering mile 12 in 7:57 and mile 13 in 7:43 her fastest sustained stretch of the race to close out strong on the way into downtown Boulder. That kind of finish, especially at over 5,000 feet of elevation, points to well-managed effort throughout. Maintaining even more of that closing speed earlier in the race could be worth exploring next time out.
