His pace held in a tight band across the race, opening with a brisk 7:10 first mile and settling into the 7:20s and 7:30s through the middle miles before a slightly slower 11th mile ahead of the closing stretch. That opening mile stood as his fastest of the race, and he was moving through the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 9.5 at a strong 7:46 pace. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Oliva's overall 7:38 min/mile pace reflected a well-managed, consistent effort from start to finish.
