Strong Late Kick Seals a Top-5% Finish Lance Goff crossed in 1:39:37, finishing 339th overall and 273rd among men in a field of 7,223 a result inside the top 5%. His pacing held remarkably steady through the first half, hovering in the 7:29-7:38 range per mile, before a stretch of 7:49-7:95 miles from miles 7 through 11. He answered with a strong close, dropping to 7:16 for mile 12, his fastest full mile of the race, before finishing at 7:31. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Goff's ability to rebound in the final two miles after the mid-race dip stands out as the defining feature of his effort. Given the strength of that closing surge, a touch more even pacing through the middle miles could be worth exploring next time out.
