Strong Finishing Kick Seals a Steady Half Carly Batzel completed the half marathon in 1:52:40, an 8:36/mile pace. After an opening mile of 9:18, she settled into a consistent 8:30s-8:40s rhythm through the middle miles, holding that pace steady from mile 3 to mile 11. She then found another gear over the final two miles, splitting 8:11 and 8:09 to close out the race her fastest miles of the day. That finishing surge came at elevation, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet, making the late acceleration especially notable. If there's one thing to consider for next time, it might be carrying a touch more of that closing pace into the middle miles, where the pace held steady but had room to push a bit harder given the strong finish she proved capable of.
