Fast Start Fuels a Strong Finish Ella Karmanos ran the half marathon in 1:57:54, an average pace of 9:00 per mile. Her race opened quickly, with the first three miles run between 8:36 and 8:53, the fastest stretch of her day. A gradual fade followed through the middle miles, bottoming out with a 9:30 split at mile eight before easing back toward 9:00 pace. She found her rhythm again late, dropping an 8:40 mile twelve her best since the opening miles before finishing on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a city sitting at over 5,000 feet of elevation.
