Steady Pickup Carries Half Marathoner to a Strong Finish Brown Chesser completed the 2026 Boulderthon Half Marathon in 2:04:03, an average pace of 9:28 per mile. His opening mile came in at 10:51, but he steadily trimmed his overall pace each mile through the middle of the race, dipping into a stretch of 9:00 and 8:44 minute miles before closing with an 8:39 final mile his fastest of the day. That late surge, from mile 10 onward, marked the strongest sustained stretch of his race, as he shaved nearly a full minute of pace over the final three miles compared to his mid-race rhythm. Chesser's race unfolded in Boulder, which sits at over 5,000 feet of elevation. The 2026 half marathon course featured a redesigned route with net elevation gain cut nearly 50%, from 384 feet to 203 feet, a change that lines up with the strong closing pace he was able to produce.
