Strong Early Pace Carries Him Into the Top Two Percent Matthew Baker finished the Boulder half marathon in 1:28:42, placing 122nd overall and 104th among men out of the field of 7,223. He built an early cushion through the first six miles, holding between 6:32 and 6:43 per mile before easing slightly to the 6:597:08 range across miles 7 and 8. He then answered with his strongest closing miles of the race, splitting 6:36 for both mile 12 and mile 13 to bring his overall pace to 6:46 per mile. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Baker's race finished on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a fitting stage for a race shaped by that fast opening third and a firm final push.
