Strong Opening Miles Give Way to a Hard-Earned Finish Tony Nguyen completed the Half Marathon in 2:14:38, an average pace of 10:16 per mile, out of a field of 7,223. Nguyen's first seven miles were the highlight of the race, covering that stretch in roughly 1:03:40, an average pace of about 9:06 per mile. That opening rhythm was even and controlled, with mile splits mostly in the 8:45-9:21 range. The back half told a different story: pace eased mile by mile from mile 8 onward, settling into the 10:12-11:58 range through mile 12 before the final mile slowed further. Given that Boulder sits above 5,000 feet of elevation, the early pace stands as a strong foundation, and the closing miles offer a clear target for building durability over the second half of the distance in future races.
