Strong Late Surge Carries Steady Half Marathon Finish Spencer Sorge finished the half marathon in 1:51:40, an 8:31 min/mile pace. Her cumulative pace held in the 8:40s-8:50s through the middle miles before tightening steadily over the second half, dropping to 8:31 by the finish. The closing miles were her fastest sustained stretch of the race miles 10 through 13 clicked off in 8:01, 8:30, 7:36, and 7:55, a strong finishing kick that pulled her pace down through the line. The race finished on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a fitting close to a course that gains and loses elevation while sitting above 5,000 feet context worth noting for any runner's overall time in Boulder. Given how well the closing miles came together here, targeting an even earlier surge could be worth exploring next time out.
