Strong Start Fades Late in the Final Mile Nephi Nielsen completed the 10K in 1:00:34, an average pace of 9:46 per mile. His race showed a clear pattern: quick opening miles gave way to a gradual slowdown, with the closing mile landing well off his early rhythm. The first two miles were his best stretch, covering that distance in 18:01 for a 9:00 min/mile pace. From there, his per-mile times lengthened steadily9:22, 9:52, 9:43before a final mile at 11:25 pushed his overall average down. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, holding sub-9:10 pace through the first two miles stands out as the highlight of the effort. A focus on maintaining that early rhythm deeper into the race could be a useful target for next time.
