Strong Early Pace Fades Down the Stretch Madeline Kearney finished this year's half marathon in 1:52:38, a step back from her 1:47:53 in 2023, with her overall pace slipping from 8:14 to 8:35 per mile. The race started fast: she banked her opening mile in 7:39, then held steady in the high 7:00s and low 8:00s through mile nine, reaching that point in 1:12:59 for an 8:06 average. Miles ten and eleven slowed sharply into the 10:20s before she pulled the pace back down to 8:42 and 9:08 to close things out. That opening nine-mile stretch stands out as the strongest running of the day, holding a tight, even rhythm before the late dip. She crossed the finish on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a city sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation a solid overall effort worth building from for next time.
