Strong Finishing Kick Closes Out a Steady Half Sophie Sorenson covered the 2026 Boulderthon Half Marathon in 1:51:56. Her pace drifted from 8:36 through the opening mile to 9:20 by mile five, then settled into a fairly even middle stretch between 8:19 and 9:09 through mile ten. From there she turned in her strongest running of the race, covering miles eleven through thirteen in a combined 22:48 an average of about 7:36 per mile a clear surge compared to the rest of her race. That closing effort carried her into downtown Boulder and across the finish on the historic Pearl Street Mall, all at an elevation above 5,000 feet. Given how much ground she made up late, she might experiment with holding a touch more pace through the middle miles to see how it affects that finishing kick.
