Strong Finishing Kick Seals a Top-Tier Half Michael Minzyk finished the half marathon in 1:40:54, placing 391st overall and 310th among men in a field of 7,223. Splits held in a tight 7:30s-to-7:50s band through the middle miles, with pace dipping only briefly near mile 8 before tightening back up. The closing two miles were the standout stretch, dropping to 7:15 and 7:19 his fastest sustained running of the race bringing the overall average down to 7:42 per mile by the finish. That finish came in downtown Boulder, on the Pearl Street Mall, a course run at over 5,000 feet of elevation. Given the strength of that final surge, Minzyk might consider testing a slightly faster middle stretch next time to see if that closing energy can be spread out earlier.
