Strong Finishing Kick Highlights Steady Half Marathon Effort Ethan Gerstein completed the half marathon in 1:42:49, an average pace of 7:50 per mile. After opening with three miles in the 8:048:08 range, he settled into a consistent rhythm through the middle miles, holding split paces between 7:49 and 8:05 from mile 4 through mile 9. The back half of the race showed a clear upward shift in effort, with miles 10 through 13 all coming in under 7:50, culminating in a 7:23 split for mile 12 his fastest mile of the race. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Gerstein's ability to accelerate in the closing miles, rather than fade, reflects well-managed pacing. Building on that late surge could be a useful focus for future races at similar distances.
