Strong Start Sets the Tone for a Steady Half Sam Evans finished in 1:38:57, placing 319th overall and 259th among men in a field of 7,223. He opened fast with a 6:43 first mile, the quickest stretch of his race, then settled into a rhythm mostly between 7:07 and 8:09 per mile through the middle of the course. He closed strong, running 7:28 and 7:38 in his final two full miles as he worked toward the Pearl Street Mall finish. The 2026 half course trimmed net elevation gain nearly 50 percent, from 384 to 203 feet, a change that may have helped him sustain that late-race rhythm at altitude. He passed the lululemon Power-Up Zone near mile 9.5 in the midst of his most consistent stretch, covering that mile in 7:53.
