Strong Closing Miles Power a Steady Half Marathon Eric Peterson finished the half marathon in 1:46:38, an 8:08 min/mile pace. His race settled into a rhythm after a brisk opening mile of 8:43, holding between 7:51 and 8:27 per mile through the middle stretch. He found another gear over the final two miles, splitting 7:35 and 7:32 to close out the race his fastest sustained stretch of the day. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Peterson's ability to negative-split the back half of the course speaks well to his pacing discipline. With the bulk of his miles clustered tightly around 8:15, there's an opportunity to explore whether an even earlier push toward that closing rhythm could smooth the overall progression next time out.
