Steady Pace Carries Him Through Boulder's Back Roads Lucas Schanz finished the Boulder half marathon in 2:02:28. He opened with a strong first mile at 9:02, holding closely between 9:01 and 9:12 through mile six, keeping his cumulative pace pinned near 9:04 for the first half of the race. A gradual softening followed, with miles seven through eleven settling into the high 9:20s to 9:59 range, before he closed with a mile 12 push at 9:19 to steady his overall pace at 2:02:28. His first five miles, averaging 9:02 per mile, stood as the fastest sustained stretch of his race. That opening effort came at Boulder's elevation, over 5,000 feet, a demanding backdrop for any half marathon pace. Schanz's final stretch through downtown Boulder, finishing on the Pearl Street Mall, brought his effort to a close after a race that showed strong early rhythm and a manageable late-race adjustment.
