Strong Start Carries Through a Steady Half Marathon Finish Samuel Francis finished the 2026 Boulderthon Half Marathon in 1:52:17, averaging 8:34 per mile. He opened fast, covering the first 3 miles in 22:59 (7:39 pace), before settling into a steadier rhythm over the middle miles. Miles 7-8 marked his slowest mile-plus stretch, dipping to a 9:45 split, before he leveled back out through the final miles to close in 8:47. Racing at altitude in Boulder, sitting over 5,000 feet, Francis showed an ability to bank early speed and manage the fade without losing significant ground late. His opening 6 miles, completed in 47:38, stand out as the strongest sustained stretch of his race. A touch more even pacing through the middle miles could help him carry that early speed further into the back half next time.
