Strong Early Miles Give Way to a Tougher Back Half Jesse Burgess covered the half marathon in 2:39:12, averaging 12:09 per mile. He opened efficiently, holding between 10:34 and 11:48 pace through the first ten miles, before the final stretch slowed considerably, with miles 11 and 12 easing to 14:53 and 14:48 as he worked toward the finish. His sharpest running came from miles 3 through 5, where he clicked off 11:08, 10:40, and 10:34 splits the fastest sustained stretch of his race. That effort came as the course made its way toward Boulder Reservoir before winding back through Boulder County roads. Every finisher in this race closes on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, itself sitting above 5,000 feet a fitting cap to a day where his early pacing held firm before the late miles asked more of him.
