After opening with a 8:23 first mile, he settled into a consistent 8:00-8:10 rhythm through the ninth mile, then shifted into a clear finishing gear miles 10 through 13 came in at 7:36, 7:56, 7:30, and 7:28, his fastest mile of the day capping the race. That closing stretch pulled his overall pace down from 8:04 at the midpoint to 7:55 at the line, a well-managed negative split.
