Steady Pacing Anchors a Strong Closing Mile Kellan Curnutte finished the half marathon in 2:00:40, an average pace of 9:12 per mile. His cumulative pace crept from 9:05 at the first mile to a high near 9:31 through mile three, then settled back down steadily, closing at 9:12 overall a sign of a well-managed effort across the back half of the course. His strongest mile came late, mile 12 to 13, covered in 8:20, the fastest full mile of his race and a strong way to close things out. That final mile carried him onto the Pearl Street Mall, where every Boulderthon distance finishes, capping a race run entirely at altitude in a city sitting above 5,000 feet. Given the modest fade in the middle miles, he might consider a touch more even pacing through miles three and four next time, letting that closing strength emerge a bit earlier on the course.
