Strong Start Fades Late but Closes with a Rally on the Mall Charles Scott finished the half marathon in 2:14:10, an overall pace of 10:14 per mile. His race followed a clear arc: after opening with a swift 9:48 first mile, he settled into a groove through mile four, covering that opening stretch at roughly a 9:29 pace, his strongest of the day. The middle miles held steady around 9:30, but miles eight through eleven brought a noticeable slowdown, with splits stretching past 11 and even 12 minutes per mile. Scott found another gear in the closing two miles, tightening back down to the 10:20s and carrying that composure to the finish. That finish came on the Pearl Street Mall, the historic downtown stretch where every Boulderthon distance concludes. Given the fade through the middle miles, Scott might look at pacing strategy for that stretch as an area to build on next time.
