Strong Closing Miles Power a Top-10% Half Marathon Finish Julie Pennington crossed the line in 1:49:04, good for 716th overall and 194th among women in a field of 7,223 at the Half Marathon. She built her race steadily through the first eight miles, holding between 8:07 and 8:34 pace, before a dip in mile nine slowed her cumulative pace to 8:36. From there she answered with her strongest running of the day, covering miles 10 through 13 in 7:48, 8:00, 7:17, and 7:39 a sustained sub-8:00 stretch that pulled her final time back down to an 8:19 overall pace. That closing surge carried her through downtown Boulder to the finish on the historic Pearl Street Mall, a strong way to cap a race run at over 5,000 feet of elevation.
