Fast Start Carries Him to a Top-Tier Finish Axel Alvarez crossed the line in 49:46 for the 10K, placing 161st overall and 113th among men in a field of 3,071 a sharp turnaround from his 4:38:11 marathon finish at last year's Boulderthon. His race opened strong, with a 7:20 first mile that proved his fastest of the day, before settling into a steady rhythm through the middle miles in the 7:40s and 8:30s. The final mile slowed to 8:56 as fatigue set in, but his overall pace of 8:01 per mile held firm to the finish. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Alvarez showed real range moving from marathon distance to the 10K this year. A touch more evenness between his early and late miles could help him close even stronger next time.
