Steady Start Gives Way to a Gritty Closing Stretch Brandon Aguilar finished the 10K in 55:12, an 8:54 min/mile average pace. His race unfolded as a gradual fade rather than a collapse: the first two miles clicked by at 8:26 and 8:20, and from there each mile ticked up slightly, ending with a 9:53 final mile. That opening mile-and-a-half was his most efficient stretch of the day, holding an 8:22 min/mile pace through two miles before the effort caught up with him on Boulder's terrain. Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, a notable backdrop for any road effort at this pace. Aguilar's ability to hold form through the first half of the race, before easing off gradually rather than sharply, speaks to a well-paced approach worth building on for future starts.
