Steady Opening Miles Give Way to a Slower 10K Finish Sasitorn May Gardner crossed the 10K finish in 1:04:17, her slowest showing at this event across her last four appearances, trailing times of 1:02:41, 1:01:39, and 1:00:46 in prior years. Her race built steadily off a strong start, with the opening two miles covered at a 9:29 min/mile pace, the fastest stretch of her day. Pace eased through miles three and four before a rebound to 9:57 in mile five, then a final mile that slowed to 11:55 to close things out. Racing through Boulder, which sits above 5,000 feet of elevation, Gardner's early rhythm reflected well-managed effort before the closing miles cost her some time. Given her history of sub-1:03 finishes here, there's room to work on sustaining that opening pace deeper into the race next time out.
